The Sacramento Native American Health Center, Inc. opened its doors to the Sacramento urban Indian community in May of 2005, under the umbrella of NAHC, Inc. (Native American Health Center- Located in the SF/Bay area) with the goal of eventually incorporating our own entity and bringing the health center back to local control. It is my pleasure to report that as of January 1st, 2007, the Sacramento Native American Health Center Inc. has accomplished this task, become a 501C3 (Federal TAX ID # 20-4287737), and has been returned to the Sacramento Community. We have been awarded the IHS Comprehensive Grant to provide primary care services, and were just recently given our FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) status. The health center's dedicated team of highly-trained clinicians offer a wide range of services, including adult medicine, pediatrics, mental health services, laboratory services, dental care, substance abuse, nutrition, and home visitation services.
A 9-member, all Native Board of Directors, and consumers governs the center .The Center has 25 employees and is rapidly growing to meet the needs of the community, and 78% are Native American from both local and out-of -state Tribes.
Our goal is to develop an experienced and capable Native American workforce comprised of experts in their chosen fields. We are proud of the important characteristics that distinguish us from mainstream health care providers and health systems.
We are rooted in and responsive to, our local community, we share a common sense of mission and purpose, we have proved resilient in the face of challenges and change, and act as advocates on behalf of our patients and community. Beyond providing health care, our goal is to contribute to the development and empowerment of our community.
Since opening our Doors we have provided services to 1923 documented Native American Clients, and 2638 Non- Native clients, from Sacramento City and County areas including, Elk Grove, Florin, Galt, Laguna Creek, North Highlands, North Sacramento, Rancho Murieta, and Rio Linda.
What we still need is your support...........
As you are aware, the start up of a new organization is difficult and, of course, expensive! We are primary funded through grants and third party revenue but are bursting with potential, and will continue to offer services that you would expect from a 1st rate Native American Health Center. These first few months will be tough, but with your support we will continue to grow and thrive. We need your help to continue providing the highest quality of care to those that depend on us.
Please contact our office, at (916) 341-0575 with any questions or to schedule a tour of the Clinic. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the health center. If you are sending your donation in the form of a check, please make it payable to: Sacramento Native American Health Center Inc.
We are overwhelmingly appreciative of your ongoing commitment the provision on Urban Indian Health and on behalf of those we serve, thank you.
