			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>SNAHC is hosting a monthly brain injury and water safety class from June to December 2012.  Participants will learn how to understand the importance of injury prevention, properly fit their child in a helmet and life jacket, and understand local injury prevention safety laws.  Helmets and life jackets may be provided free of charge to those who meet the qualifying criteria and if supplies are available. Space is limited to 15 participants per class. <br />

Join us for “Six Weeks of Summer Fitness” on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.  We will meet every Wednesday from May 23 – June 27th from 5:30-6:30pm on the 3rd floor of the SNAHC Admin Building 2022 J Street. Our class will combine high/low aerobics for a great cardiovascular workout. The last 15 minutes of each class will include body sculpting with weights and abdominal exercises. Class is FREE.  All fitness levels welcome!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>SNAHC has partnered with the UC Davis Cancer Center and Turtle Health Foundation, Inc. to conduct a study on breast health and American Indian women.</p>
<p>Participants will be randomly assigned to groups of women who will participate in an educational program (talking circle) on breast health; some groups will immediately go through the program and other groups will be “wait-listed” and complete the program at a later date. All women enrolled in this study will complete the 1 ½-2 hour talking circle, a baseline survey, and a follow-up survey 60 days later.</p>
<p>Eligibility Criteria:<br />
• Native American/ Alaska Native Woman<br />
• 41 years or older<br />
• Never been diagnosed with breast cancer<br />
• Has not had a recent mammogram</p>
<p>All talking circle participants will receive a $20.00 Wal-Mart gift card and a $10.00 gas card.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Join us for SNAHC’s Youth GONA. This 3-day GONA is based on several ideas:</p>
<p>• Community healing is necessary for substance abuse prevention. There will be special emphasis on suicide prevention.</p>
<p>• Healthy traditions in the Native American community are key to effective prevention.</p>
<p>• The holistic approach to wellness is a traditional part of Native American belief system.</p>
<p>• Every community member is of value in empowering the community.</p>
<p>• The GONA is a safe place for communities to share, heal and plan for action.</p>
<p>• The GONA provides Native communities with an indigenous framework to examine historical trauma, and its impact on substance abuse and suicidal behavior issues, with an emphasis on community empowerment.</p>
<p>Who can attend? Native youth ages 10-16</p>
<p>When is it? July 13th-15th, 2012. This is a 3-day out of town event taking place at Grizzly Creek Ranch in Portola, CA. ** There are also 3 MANDATORY orientation meetings for all attendees. These will take place on June 28th, July 5th and July 26th at SNAHC. Participants must attend all orientation meetings in order to go to Portola. There will be no exceptions.</p>
<p>How do I register? Fill out the attached registration packet and return it to Aisha Prince. Space is limited. All applicants and their parent/guardian must have a screening meeting with a Community Services staff person prior to being accepted into the program. Accepted applicants will then be placed on the roster based on their screening date.</p>
<p>Deadline for application submission: Friday, April 13th at 4:00pm</p>
