The join us for SNAHC’s Adult GONA. This 4-day GONA is based on several ideas:
Community healing is necessary for substance abuse prevention. There will be special emphasis on suicide prevention.

Healthy traditions in the Native American community are key to effective prevention.

The holistic approach to wellness is a traditional part of Native American belief system.

Every community member is of value in empowering the community.

The GONA is a safe place for communities to share, heal and plan for action.

The GONA provides Native communities with an indigenous framework to examine historical trauma, and its impact on substance abuse and suicidal behavior issues, with an emphasis on community empowerment.
Anyone 18 years and older may attend.

The GONA will take place at SNAHC on May 24th, May 25th, May 31st and June 1st, 2012 from 5:30-7:30pm. Participants must attend all 4 days. To register, fill out the attached registration form and photo release and return it to Aisha Prince. Space is limited so participants will be selected on a first come, first served basis. The registration deadline is Friday March 9th at 5:00pm. Applications will not be accepted after this time.

Please contact Cibonay Cordova at ext. 213 or Aisha Prince at ext. 248 if you have any questions.

Dear Honored Community Members,

Year-end is a time of gratitude, reflection and planning. First of all, we are immensely thankful for the opportunity to serve you, your families and the community. We are inspired daily by your dedication to improving your physical, mental and spiritual health and for allowing us to be a part of that process.

With cuts to Medi-Cal benefits, rises in unemployment and increases in community need for health services, the past year presented many challenges for the health center and for our community as a whole. Yet, at every turn, we responded in full force and made swift changes to lessen the impacts of proposed funding cuts, decrease the need that still exists in our community and to provide real value-driven results that patients deserve.

Looking back from year’s end, we were able to stave off major funding reductions and actually realized an increase in available funding for services. Through the streamlining of processes, extension of hours and, of course, community partnerships, we were able to continue providing valuable holistic wellness services for our community. Also, we entered into the Indian Health Service’s Improving Patient Care Collaborative (IPC) journey toward achieving Patient Centered Medical Home status and, more importantly, increased our staffing and support staff to better accommodate the needs of our patients.

Most significantly, you asked and we heard you! We have begun our new digital phone system implementation! We are confident that our new system will start 2012 off on the right foot with a decrease in wait times, and a more user-friendly phone service.

As we look to the year ahead we know we will once again face similar challenges – but we can go into the New Year with confidence that together we can and will continue to make solid progress toward improving the overall patient experience here at SNAHC!

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your community. We are honored! We are looking forward to an amazing 2012 full of blessings, laughter and continued gratitude. So, on behalf of the Board of Directors and staff, thank you for all your support. Whether it is through your making and keeping of regular appointments, active group participation, taking part in stakeholder meetings and community events, and telling your friends and family members about our services, we thank you for trusting us with your care and the care of your loved ones.

Happy Holidays and a joyous New Year!
Ricardo Torres, Board Chair and Britta Guerrero, CEO
