Community Health
Sacramento Native American Health Center

SNAHC is involved in a number or efforts and events with the goal of educating and welcoming the various peoples and organizations in Sacramento and beyond, including: On Native Ground (weekly radio show), 2nd Saturday Art Walk, Gathering of the Lodges, neighborhood health & safety fairs, youth drum groups, local big-times/powwows, and others.

A Public Health Nurse and 2 part time Community Health Representatives currently staff the Community Health and Outreach Department of SNAHC. The services that are currently provided include: home visits to Native elders and families with small children; organization of health promotion and disease prevention events in the community; education regarding the hazards of alcohol use and cigarette smoking, as well as the benefits of exercise, healthy eating, and good personal hygiene practices.

The staff also provides referral services for individuals and families who require other human services, such as tribal Temporary Aid for Needy Families (TANF), or California Indian Manpower Consortium (CIMC), as well as other community resources to help their families thrive.

The program is starting slowly, but will grow as the community becomes more aware of the services that are provided. If you feel that you or anyone you know could benefit from these services, or if you just want more information, please call the clinic and ask for Outreach Services.
